About
Mathew Yerian-French
Quick Bio
Mat is an electrical engineer specializing in EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) design and diagnostics. Currently, he is employed at E3 Compliance LLC, where he focuses on preventing EMC issues through thorough design reviews and early pre-compliance testing.
He graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2022 with a BSE in Electrical Engineering. During his time at GVSU, Mat served as the Lead Electrical Engineer for his Capstone Project, which involved designing, building, and programming a custom PCB sensor board. The board interfaced with a Geiger–Müller tube to detect radiation levels and connected to a local network via PoE or WiFi. The project exceeded expectations, successfully meeting all requirements and earning praise from the sponsor.
In addition to his professional work, Mat is dedicated to advancing his knowledge in EMC concepts, procedures, and diagnostics. He also enjoys working on personal PCB design projects, combining practical applications with educational exploration.
Current Role
Mat is an EMC Engineer at E3 Compliance LLC in Grand Rapids, MI, where he has worked since August 2022. EMC is a fascinating field for Mat because it impacts nearly all electrical systems—critical in today’s technology-driven world. While EMC remains his primary focus, he has a strong passion for PCB and circuit design.
During his time at E3, Mat has conducted numerous detailed EMC design reviews, generating comprehensive reports shared with clients. These reviews often involve analyzing highly complex systems, some with tens of pages of schematics. In addition to design reviews, he actively participates in pre-compliance testing and in-depth EMC diagnostics.
Mat’s journey with E3 began as a Co-Op in the summer of 2020, where he completed three rotations focused on EMC diagnostics, pre-compliance testing, and interpreting testing standards. This hands-on experience seamlessly transitioned into his full-time role, where his work has centered on automotive and commercial devices, with occasional exposure to medical and military systems.
Beyond his work at E3, Mat has collaborated with Grand Valley State University, assisting Professor Bogdan Adamczyk in designing PCBs and contributing to EMC-related research papers. In 2023, he guided and managed the engineering aspects of a senior project at GVSU, sponsored by E3. He has also taken on a mentorship role, training new Co-Op students in diagnostics and EMC testing.
